“As you might know, our colleague professor Marek Cielplak passed away on the 31st of December 2021.
As I learned from his obituary, Marek was a graduate of the faculty of physics at the University of Warsaw and also at the University of Pittsburgh.
He was, indeed, as we could all appreciate during this time with us, an outstanding scientist, conducting research on statistical physics, condensed matter physics and biological physics, at the University of Warsaw, at the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and at diverse academic institutions in the USA, Sweden, Germany, Italy and Mexico. he was also a lecturer at Rutgers university and Johns Hopkins University.
As a lecturer and supervisor he passed on his knowledge to many students, doctorates and master´s students, some of whom are here with us today.
He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and founder and head of the Laboratory of Biological Physics.
We are all still shocked at the news. Marek Cielpack, may he rest in peace”.
